Abstract
We have developed the olfactory display that can change multiple type of aroma in 0.1 second units in order to examine the response to human olfactory stimuli or use for virtual reality contents. This olfactory display diffuses aroma essence into the air, and the diffused aroma components are delivered to the system user’s nostrils by airflow from fan, thereby presenting olfactory information. In this paper, we estimated the latency of olfactory information presentation in the olfactory display with computational fluid dynamics simulations in order to synchronize the presentation of olfactory information with videos. From the results, the latency of this olfactory display was estimated to be about 0.15 second.
