Abstract
Because chemicals have different hazard and risk according to their type, it is important to secure expertise for the incident response staff to deal effectively with chemical incidents. Although many organizations conduct incident response training, they find it difficult because of the high cost and risk of an incident during training. Meanwhile, virtual reality technology is applied in various fields, including safety education, military training, and the medical field. Such training using virtual reality can control the training scenario and environment, in addition to offering other benefits such as low cost, minimized risk of an incident during training, repeatability, and high immersion. Because of these benefits, in the present study, a chemical incident response training program was developed by applying virtual reality technology, and an enhanced training effect with a higher level of immersion and reality was obtained by establishing a virtual environment similar to an actual one.
