Abstract
The continued development and proliferation of augmented reality technology into U.S. Army simulation-based training represents an exciting trend in the field of Modeling & Simulation. Augmented reality provides a potential revolutionary method whereby the U.S. Army can train its soldiers. This paper examines the definition, history, potential benefits and current employment of augmented reality technology in training. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of the Collective Augmented Reality Training for Dismounted Soldiers (CART-DS) research program, a potential futuristic use of augmented reality technology in U.S. Army training.
