Abstract
In a large-scale stereoscopic environment, the virtual objects are usually compressed into the 3D comfort zone, which results in the poor depth perception of a viewer. To get better depth perception, a hybrid rendering model is presented. The model uses a depth mapping method to provide maximum perceived depth in the region of interest without causing the viewing discomfort. At the same time, it uses a Gaussian fuzzy stereoscopic method or a single viewport non-stereoscopic method in the non-region of interest to reduce the 3D viewing discomfort for excessive parallax. Experiments show that the hybrid rendering model can optimize the stereoscopic virtual space and make the viewer’s perceived depth better in a marine simulator scene.
