Abstract

Securing users’ safety is a prerequisite for any Virtual Reality (VR) experience no matter in which kinds of circumstances. In this work, we present two Augmented Virtuality interfaces that integrate the depth sensing of surroundings into the VR scene for safety precaution, 1) 3D virtual grid with monochrome, and 2) 3D virtual grid with color based on depth values. The audience of this demo can participate via wearing the HTC Vive Pro1 headset and walk around in the playing areas with pre-placed furniture. When users walk in the testing zones with potential obstacles, different 3D virtual safety grid mentioned above will be triggered to visualize the physical environment to remind them of the possible collision.
