Abstract
An optical fiber 3D shape sensor for motion capture is reported. The probe is comprised of Bragg grating strain sensors embedded into a 3D -printed polymer fiber substrate, allowing for the continuous assessment of the bending magnitude and direction. Moreover, the device was tested on the measurement of the forearm movements, making it possible to correctly replicate the captured motions in an avatar, providing a simple and minimally-invasive approach for applications in virtual reality.
